Dear Colleagues,
The Cardiovascular Medicine and Falls & Fractures Special Interest Groups of the European Geriatric Medicine Society (EuGMS) are pleased to invite you to participate in the online survey:
Syncope and unexplained falls in older adults
Syncope and unexplained falls are very common in older patients and cause hospitalization, disability, depression and death. Since the 2018 European Society of Cardiology guidelines on syncope, the diagnostic and therapeutic pathway of unexplained falls (typical of the geriatric population) has been equated with those of unexplained syncope.
In the world of geriatric medicine, the culture of unexplained falls and syncope is still poorly implemented compared to the field of cardiology. In reality, Geriatrics should be the key discipline for these patients, who need a multi-disciplinary framework not restricted to cardiology.
The EuGMS, in particular the Cardiovascular Medicine and Falls & Fractures Special Interest Groups, has the ambitious goal of increasing the knowledge of syncope and unexplained falls in geriatricians, particularly aimed at „Syncope and Falls Units“ in Geriatric Departments, based on the experience of some pioneering centres in Europe in this field.
For this reason, this survey is aimed at all geriatricians affiliated with the EuGMS and will be very important for understanding the current European reality in order to implement a call to action in the coming months.
The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete and is accessible at the following link: Syncope and Unexplained Falls
We would like to thank all those who have already responded and would be most grateful if those who have not could complete it by 15th July 2026.
We sincerely thank you for your valuable contribution and collaboration.
